Basic Bitching w/ Bill & Turner Ross - Directors of Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets

Episode Summary

A deep "dive" conversation with Directors Bill & Turn Ross.

Episode Notes

We've been wanting Bill and Turner Ross, directors of Bloody Nose Empty Pockets, back on the show since we met them at Sundance earlier this year. It was  100% worth the wait! If you're missing your favorite watering hole, this film is the cure for you. We "dive" into what makes dive bars so special, how they came up with the title, and why they decided to open the film with the first line of the Declaration of Independence. We discuss their unique ability to make the viewer feel like part of the story, and why Hollywood was NOT the place for them. They speak openly about their documentary on the making of Ben Zeitlin's Wendy, Second Star to the Right and Straight on 'Til Morning, and why the studio rejected it (If you're interested in watching it, you can send them a DM and they'll share the link with you!). As residents of one of our favorite places in the world, New Orleans, they get into the current vibe of the city, and how they're getting through this moment. We thank them for making a film that on its surface is about a dive bar, but is really a study on how we deal with being human in difficult times. We can all relate to that right about now.

CLICK HERE to stream Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets on July 8th for National Dive Bar Day (10% of all rentals will benefit US Bar Guild Foundation and their Covid-19 Bartender Emergency Relief Fund), and starting 7/10 for a virtual roll out.
